Program Manager at IVMF
Anthony Cosby is the Program Manager at the Institute for Veterans and Military Families (IVMF) at Syracuse University. In his current role, he provides management, operational, recruitment expertise, and creative effort to engage employer support for the IVMF Programs and Services portfolio to provide workforce placement and employment opportunities for transitioning service members, veterans and military spouses. Anthony previously led the efforts to launch the Onward to Opportunity (O2O) program at Joint Base San Antonio as Installation Manager.
Anthony’s passion is to help career seekers identify the ideal career path, navigate their career transition and achieve their career goals. As a former Alumni Career Coach for The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), he provided individual career coaching, occupational information, mentorship, and job search strategies for over 91,000 active alumni worldwide, 30,000 students and 2,800 student veterans. As a key member of the UTSA Employer Relations team, he actively outreached to Fortune 500 new employer contacts and strategically created strong partnerships with alumni for employment leads across multiple personnel functions and disciplines. He implemented an employer partner networking strategy with a success rate of 90% career placement. As a previous Campus Director for Webster University at Fort Sam Houston, he was the principal contact in building strong academic and career service programs to support constituencies within the military, community, local business, and government organizations. He planned, developed and implemented campus Veteran Career Coaching seminars that proudly served service members, veterans and their families in obtaining career transition information.
Anthony retired from the United States Navy as a Naval Officer. He held key leadership positions throughout his highly decorated 21-year military career. His most notable deployment was onboard USS Roosevelt (DDG 80) in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He was handpicked for the highly visible position as the United States Naval Academy’s Enlisted Personnel Officer and Executive Officer for Naval Station Annapolis, Maryland; managing all administrative functions, budget control, recruitment, career development and job training programs for more than 330 military and civilian personnel. As a Talent Development professional, he has extensive candidate development, coaching, mentoring and recruiting experience. As Director for the Navy Leadership Academy in Pensacola, Florida, he successfully led a professionally diverse team of 20 Senior Recruiters to develop curriculum and human capital strategic long/short range planning in support of training in recruitment, retention, and readiness to over 7,000 personnel in 26 Recruiting Districts across America. He received many accolades, such as being formally recognized as the national U.S. Navy Diversity Recruiter of the Year. His experiences in management and leadership of a recruiting organization, higher education and training provides exceptional insight that served to uniquely prepare him for the position of a Director for Employer Outreach. He has navigated the challenges inherent with leadership and career management while maintaining, and in most cases improving stability, quality of career services, training and responsiveness to clients, students and personnel.
Anthony is a graduate of Auburn University earning a Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration and holds a Master of Science in Administration from Central Michigan University. He holds a certification in NACE Career Coaching Intensive and Journeyman Instructor Training. He volunteers with at-risk youth programs and works with various veteran service organizations. He currently resides in San Antonio, TX, with his lovely wife Nina and their daughter Maria Mae (Mimi).
